She was among dozens who spotted the mysterious flashing orangey-yellow spheres over Lincolnshire ? where the turbine was left wrecked.Dorothy, of Louth, said: The lights were moving across the sky towards the wind farm."Then I saw a low flying object. It was skimming across the sky towards the turbines.Hours later there was an almighty smash.Dorothy said: My husband Stephen was woken at 4am by the bang.Afterwards there was no trace of one of the turbines three huge 65ft blades ? ripped off in the collision. Another was left twisted and useless. Other locals told how the lights looked like balls of flames. Lesley Whittingham, 71, even managed to photograph it ? and said: It looked like a giant explosion in the air.John Harrison, another witness, described how he looked out of his landing window and saw a massive ball of light with tentacles going right down to the ground over the wind farm. He said: It was huge. With the tentacles it looked just like an octopus.The object that struck the turbine at Conisholme near Louth on Sunday dodged others surrounding it ? and last night experts had no explanation for what it was. There were NO reports of any aircraft collisions.Council health and safety officials said even the strongest gale was unlikely to be responsible.The damage was described by the Health and Safety Executive as a unique incident.Wind farm company Ecotricity admitted: We dont know what caused the problem. We are investigating.

After beginning his music career as the drummer for John Lee Hooker, Mitchell Field bounced around in different rock groups and bars before approaching Bob Gallo of CBS Records in 1977. Though impressed with the demo tape Field gave him, the record company wasn't interested in signing new solo artists. Field was advised to put together a band and try again ... and that's exactly what he did. 2 members from a local Toronto outfit called Dennison Booth answered an ad, guitarist Dave Hovey and bassist Jamie Larsen. Drummer Steve Coombs and Rick Lamb on keyboards soon joined the fray. Now based out of Toronto full time, the quintet locked themselves into the studios and emerged 2 months later with some new material and a new demo.With Gallo and CBS Canada president Arnold Gosewich acting as producers, Hellfield released their self-titled debut on Epic in '78. A combination of hard rock and power-pop, the album contained two singles, "Too Late", followed by "Tell Me Are You Listening". Both tracks gained significant FM airplay here in Canada and the album sold well in the US as an import, also due in part to such tracks as "Magic Mistress" and "Fancy Nancy". But despite the band's initial success, Gallo felt some changes were needed. Unhappy with the work of Coombs, he recommended a new drummer. In fact, it was Field himself who sat behind the kit for much of the first record. Enter new drummer Billy Smith. Another bone of contention with Gallo was the band's management. He objected with their decision to keep the band in the bar circuit, as opposed to playing lower paying, but higher profiled gigs, touring with the likes of Toto, Meatloaf and Santana. Still, the band toured extensively here promoting the first record, opening for such groups as Triumph, Little River Band, The Cars and Max Webster. Smith's time behind the drumkit was shortlived however. By the release of NIGHT MUSIC in '79, the band had Charlie Mitchell as the new drummer and Paul Rowes had replaced Hovey on guitars. Gosewich and Gallo returned as the production team and the new record again featured tight writing and a melodic metal approach, spawning another two singles, the title track and "Caroline". Other noteable tracks included "Sister Blue" and "Running Back To You". Unfortunately at the same time, CBS was going through their own cabinet shuffles. After Gallo, Gosewich and several others were replaced, NIGHT MUSIC dropped a notch or two on the company's priority list. The lack of support from their label spelled disaster for the group. By early 1980, the band was in a state of disarray. Unhappy with the keyboard-oriented power pop of the first two records, Field fired Lamb, looking for a gutsier, guitar-driven sound. Also on the way out was Billy Smith, replaced by new drummer Rod Blacker. The revised group went back to the bars, where for the next couple of years they refined their new heavier sound when news broke that they'd been dropped from CBS' roster. Frustrated with the way things were going and with the business in general, the band called it quits in 1982.Hellfield falls into the category of good bands that just couldn't find their niche, due in part to their unwilling to compromise their sound or succumb to marketing pressures. The changing musical landscape at the time should also be taken into account as well. However, as they say, hindsight is 20/20. Only an elite group of a few Canadian groups ever ventured into the waters of heavy metal without drowning, and even those who did venture in still had to modify their sound at one time or another. The much anticipated release of Field's first solo record became a reality in 2000, when GROWN MEN CRYING was released. A deal is also in the works with Bullseye Records to have The Sub-Basement Tapes, a collection of remixes and forgotten gems re-released sometime in the near future.

Published Date: 05 January 2009 COULD the damage to a turbine at Conisholme wind farm be the work of UFO's? Reports of a large bang and flashing lights skimming across the sky on the night a turbine on Conisholme wind farm was damaged have been told. Mr Stephen Willows and his wife, Dorothy who live in Fen Lane close to the Conisholme wind farm have told the Leader how Stephen was startled in his sleep by a loud bang at 4am Sunday morning. It is believed the damage which has left one of the massive blades missing and another bent out of shape happened at some point on Sunday night. They also reported how on Saturday night, Dorothy and two friends were travelling to Louth by car, when Dorothy looked up at the sky to see lights travelling in a strange fashion across the sky towards the wind farm. Dorothy said: "I don't believe in UFO's but it was a low flying object. This light seemed to be in the distance, and then it seemed to skim across the sky towards the turbines. "It might not be connected, but it is just how your mind works when something like this happens you think, could that have been the noise Stephen heard, or was that to do the light I saw? But until we know what has happened for definite it is very hard to say". The couple went to the scene to have a closer look, and like many residents, take photographs of the damage. But, when they arrived at the scene, they were shocked to find they had little evidence to go on. "When we got there, there was nothing to be seen - not even the propeller on the ground" added Dorothy. "Those blades are pretty sturdy we saw them when they were being constructed whatever has hit them has made quite an impact. I was shocked to see that there was no debris left". The company, Ecotricity have since sent engineers down to establish the cause of the damage to the turbine. Wednesday 3.20pm - THE mystery of the 'tentacle UFO' seen before the wind turbine at Conisholme was damaged has deepened. Now Coun Robert Palmer, Chairman of East Lindsey District Council, has stepped forward to say he too saw a strange light in the sky the night before the turbine blade fell off. He was travelling in a car and saw a light in the sky above the Conisholme wind farm. He said: "There was definitely something there." John Harrison from Saltfleetby has already told us how he saw a 'massive ball of light' with 'tentacles going right down to the ground'ver the wind farm on Saturday night. The next morning locals discovered a blade on one of the 89 metre high wind turbines has broken off and another blade was badly dented. Dorothy and Stephen Willows also saw strange lights on Saturday night which seemed to skim across the sky towards the turbines. Dorothy said: "I don't believe in UFO's, but there was a low flying object. This light looked to be in the distance, and then it seemed to skim across the sky towards the turbines." Stephen was woken by a 'large, loud bang that sounded like thunder' at 4am on Sunday morning. A team of experts from Ecotricity are investigating what caused the damage and say there is no danger to the public. Meanwhile, our reports of the UFO sightings and the damage to wind turbine have spread like wildfire across the world wide web. One website has posted an image of an 'octopus UFO' along with the report and others are getting messages from people about the damage. One message posted on a website says: "Space Squid covert operatives working for Big Oil, destroying alternative energy sources. Sounds reasonable to me." Another says: "There are plans to build a wind turbine on the edge of the village where I live in Leicestershire so I will be keeping an eye out for any UFO activity once it is built!"
